What if…

“What if a great man of the last century – Gandhi, say – had had access to the communications networks of our age when he made one of his most important speeches?” The result is ‘Telecom Italia Gandhi’, an astonishing 60-second spot airing in Italy. The producers went straight to the A-List for their director, bringing Spike Lee on board to helm it. Such an ambitious project with such a high-profile director needed the very best in VFX support, and Framestore CFC were delighted to fill that role.

A fantastic spot by Y&R Italy, directed by Spike Lee, for Telecom Italia, the first italian company of communications networks. This spot won a lot of prizes here in Italy… every time i watch it, i shiver…

At the end of the spot, the claim:

“If he could have communicated like this, what kind of world would it be today?”

“Telecom Italia, communicate is life”

Here the words of the spot, in the speech “One World” of Gandhi prepared in New Delhi, 1947. The words of this spot are only some words of the original speech:

“If you want to give a message, it must be a message of ‘Love’, it must be a message of ‘Truth’. I want to capture your hearts. Let your hearts clap in unison with what I’m saying. A friend asked yesterday, “Did I believe in one world?” How can I possibly do otherwise? Of course I believe in one world.”

In italiano:

“Se volete dare un messaggio, deve essere un messaggio di amore, deve essere un messaggio di verità. Voglio catturare i vostri cuori. Lasciate che i vostri cuori battano all’unisono con quello che dico. Ieri un amico mi ha chiesto se credo in un mondo unito. Come potrei fare altrimenti? Certo che credo in un mondo unito”.

Impressive and emotive concept, and yes… what if Ghandi would had access to todays technology, would the world be different?

If I only could understand what last thing says… the words in italian, could anyone translate?
