Amnesty International: Choose

o_amnesty-turkey-violence.jpg
This is maybe the best and most effective artwork I ever saw. These interactive banner ads made for Amnesty International Turkey shows the most cruel scenes you can imagine. After seeing the scene the viewer is asked: Choose, stop or go on. Thes ads are published on Turkey’s most hitted web sites like CNN Turkey. They created amazing traffic at Amnesty’s web site and dramatically increased membership applications.

Agency: DDB&Co Turkey

These links shows the banners at CNN Turkey:

- Violence english banner

- Torture original banner

- Cruelty original banner

The footage is in fact Romanian… was recorded by the girl with a hidden camera and made the news few months ago.
I wonder how Amnesty Turkey got it.

Very good, I like the idea very much. Is difficult to justify the violence scenes in a social campaign because everybody think that its necessary to see people in the reality that exists. However, these kind of scenes has been made us so insensible after seeing that stuffe everyday in Youtube, etc… we see that as nothing.
When they ask just to click Play or Stop, nothing more, they ask us to reflect about an actitud that becomes in something so simple… but, I still ask: how its possible that the social campigns call peolpe to join them, to enter ins action, do something, how? say something to change isnt enought, we need to do somehthing else, something like this campaing is doing.

Hmmm, the sentence ‘Practice what you preach’ comes to mind. And in that light I don’t think it’s a good campaign. Yes it’s shocking and it lets you think and choose. But is that the right tactic? I mean the banner forces me to watch violence against people, that I didn’t commit but I’m held responsible for it? Things don’t add up.
