These ads are awful. Diesel is exploiting the problem of global warming for advertising and business purposes. Its making global warming seem cool and fashionable - like hey, if we destroy the environment, then it’ll be like the bahamas all the time! This is misleading and horrifying.

Veronica said,

July 28, 2007 @ 12:38 am

Elyse, no it does not. you’re not getting the picture. it’s WHAT IF global warming effected certain areas so it’s exploiting global warming problems in a comedic way and for advertising purposes too. but it’s not trying to say let there be global warming. advertising is about being creative to get to a customer, and that’s what they’re doing. :)

Artemis Riddle said,

July 28, 2007 @ 12:55 am

I agree with elyse.
These ads are horrible, creative or no, they are just making people want to have the warming, not preventing it!!!!!

Kasey said,

Elyse:
Yes, to a degree Diesel is exploting global warming for for business purposes. It is ignorant of you to think foul of a company doing so if they are in fact working on reducing their environment impact. The real question that you should be raising is what is Diesel doing as a company to reduce their environmental impact? Are they using more organic material? In order for global warming to really be taken on, it has to be recognized as profitable. It’s not like all these business are just going to stop because of global warming. Wouldnt it be a good thing if a company, like Diesel, saw an opportunity in global warming to reach an ever growing market of greener customers by reducing their environmental impact?

If climate change is happening then it’s going to happen, but this isn’t the first time in history that climate has changed. Besides if a handful of countries change a few light bulbs and recycle a few carrier bags it isn’t going to make places like china shut down all their carbon fueled factories.
It’s about time someone had a bit of fun with it. Good ads.

Hi, I published all the series in April here: http://campagnesociali.wordpress.com/2007/04/23/sei-pronto-per-il-cambiamento-climatico/
I agree with Elyse, Diesel is exploiting the problem, but it’s not the only one. Even MTV and other for profit companies are doing the same, but if this can help more people to join the campaign and change their lifestyle, is this so awful? I don’t think.

THIS IS FUCKED.

Where are the world’s poor in these photos? drowned in Buenos and dead of thirst in china.

I think the pictures are really hot but the sort of people who buy these clothes are already rich, they know about the problem and this just tells them that as long as they have got the money they will survive it AND look good. Its not challenging anytning, only people who already care about global warming will think this is shocking. The everyday people who actually buy these clothes will just reaffirm their belief that money will make global warming go away, and really - its not that serious.

Its fucked and fucking typical.

Well, let’s think a little bit more.

I own one Diesel jean and it’s the mot resistant I’ve ever seen. After 4 or 5 years and intensive wearing, it’s still there, not even a tiny hole in it.

No, I’m not working for Diesel, I’m not even a brand fan, but according to my experience, I would say Diesel is better than another one concerning global warming because they are manufacturing high quality products.

OK, they are not aiming at my kind of customer, buying one jean every 5 years ;-) But knowing it will last for years, if I cared about global warming and had to buy a new jean, I would go for a Diesel one because the gaz emitted during the production of this jean won’t be emitted again for the four next years!

I’m saying I don’t care about global warming but in fact I do, subconsciously. I really love sustainability, buying and repairing second hands things, and even clothes, so I’m only sticking at beauty of ads, I don’t feel concerned as a customer by advertising.

I guess most global warming concerned people saying here this ad sucks won’t buy any Diesel product, when they should, in fact ;-)

I think the campaign is very creative, innovative and eyecatching.

However, if the campaign offends people, which from reading some of the statements above i can clearly see it does, then has diesel really done it’s job properly. Delicate matters are to be handled in a delicate way and although i can see the funny side, i can imagine more than a few that can’t.

I don’t know, I kind of like these - Everybody else is out trying to save the world from huge tidal waves and extreme temperature changes and these dumb ass skinny models are still walking around posing!!

It subversively pokes fun at rich people that they don’t give a fuck about what’s going on around them and they just care about what they look like.

We can see how some major architectural landmarks are submerged and this would show sum what of a negative issue - hence why this is clearly not promoting global warming as a good thing. Its simply saying - “The world is screwed, but I still look great”

As an advertiser I can see how this campaign hit its target demographic - not super rich, but still well off, young, fashion conscious individuals - perfectly.

Yes its cruel, yes it thoughtless, and yes - it’s advertising :)

The myth of Global Warming is simply pseudo science. It is promulgated by those lacking the intellectual capacity to understand the physics of both meteorology and of thermodynamics. Blindly following a consensus where the public’s real agenda is fuelled by a culture of jealousy and envy against those that have worked harder than most to provide themselves with modern essentials and yes, even civilisation’s legally traded comforts. As evidenced by the victimisation of air travellers and SUV or 4 X 4 car owners for example. Blind faith coupled with levels of human arrogance only paralleled throughout history by religious bigotry and fanaticism. The agenda of governments and large corporations is of course more sinister. To frighten a gullible public into consuming less at the same time as parting with more money for the privilege!

Proof that contradicts the theories of Global Warming is actively suppressed, both by an hysterical media whose profits no one can deny are dependant upon sensationalism and by transient democratic governments pandering for voters from the ranks of popular opinion. Regrettably even such contrary evidence as does surface is apparently far too complicated though for misinformed devotees of the Global Warming myth to comprehend.

Persecution, victimisation and vendettas launched as ‘Protecting the Environment’ against challengers to the Global Warming myth would be considered both an outrage and certainly illegal if perpetrated anywhere in the civilised world in the name of any other prejudice.

To be a scientist or an engineer that understands the physics requires years of training and experience combined with informed application of facts based upon proven and repeatable scientific experiment. Gaining quedos from ones peers by being seen as ‘Green’ merely requires ‘parrot learning’ then reciting of the herd mantra.
