Department of the Environment: Mess

Excessive speed was a factor in almost 30% of road fatalities in the Republic of Ireland between 1996 and 2004 and a factor in 24% of road fatalities between 1996 and 2005 in Northern Ireland.

This was the disturbing revelation made at the launch of «Mess» a new sixty seconds hard hitting anti-speeding TV advert from the Road Safety Authority, supported by Hibernian Insurance, and from the Department of the Environment, Northern Ireland, supported by Norwich Union.

My god, i leave my car in the garage tonight …
It’s what we call the “real-wow” effect …

I’m from Ireland and trust me no one here knows how to drive, these ads and a few more before them still haven’t drilled the message home to most people and especially “boy racers”.

I agree, that kind of strong ads are needed in Mexico, the rate of car accidents caused by speed and alcohol is insane. In a regular weekend night it goes up to a 100. And the authorities do nothing.

I agree that this is a pretty hard hitting ad, however I found the plot or narrative too hard to believe and therefore not effective… I mean, you’d have to pretty unlucky to be kissing your girlfriend on a wall down a country lane and suddenly be hit and crushed by a car. I think that the story should have been built around an everyday occurrence or situation that was more realistic.

wow! quite much for a ad. seems like a part from ‘final destination’ rather then an ad.
