The forests are disappearing
The earth’s forests are in trouble. Eighty per cent of all ancient forests worldwide have been destroyed. This threatens plants and animal species and worsens the poverty of people who are dependent on the forests. Deforestation also contributes to climate change: deforestation is responsible for as much as 20 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions.

Stolen wood in our homes
At least half of all wood entering Europe from high-risk areas* has been illegally logged. Illegal logging can mean, that the wood has been logged without a permit, or that more wood was logged than permitted. There’s a high chance that stolen wood can also be found in your own home. It may be in garden furniture, doors and window frames – but is also used in government projects.

Stop stealing our forests!
For years governments and politicians have discussed the problem of illegal logging. Now there’s an opportunity to do something about it. In early 2008 the European Commission will do a proposal to combat trade in illegally logged wood. Friends of the Earth believes environmental legislation should require all wood and wood products placed on the European market to be legally logged. Your support is crucial! Therefore sign the appeal to European Commissioners.

Onsalakorv: Ready-sliced sausage

Background: After more than 50 years on the market, Onsala is the best known brand of sandwhich sausage in Sweden. Through the years, the package and logo design have been more or less the same, making it easily recognizable on the supermarket shelves. Now, the Onsala-sausage has been improved. It comes ready-sliced, and in a special, new package. No more need for sharp knives – even the children can make their own sausage-sandwiches, without the risk of losing a finger or two.

Solution: The new sausage is exactly the same as the old one. The only difference is that it now is available as ready-sliced. Since the specific design of the Onsala-sausage is so well known, we show the famous old package in the advertising – instead of the new. The only difference is that the billboards, posters, ads, trolleys, buses etc showing the old sausage, is sliced.

Result: During the weeks of the campaign, the “sliced” advertising became the talk of the town. The ads fluttered in the wind on billboards, buses, subways and shopping-trolleys, and were frequently mentioned in press articles and on radio-shows. The sales for the ready-sliced sausage was 140% higher than projected.

They put small model cars of the Polo BlueMotion with signs and dispensers on conveyor belts in sushi bars. The messages: “Up to 1,100 km without a petrol stop. The Polo BlueMotion”. and “Grab it and win!”. Everybody who took a card and introduced the code into their microsite could fix a test drive online and automatically took part in a raffle of 100 weekend trips with the Polo BlueMotion.
