Child labour is a grave problem that threatens the future of our nation. Today underage labour deprives thousands of children in India of an education and these children are forced to work in hazardous and unhygienic work environments. To free them from the clutches of child labour is a challenge that they as citizens must take up. Each individual’s contribution cn help after current situation; this was the essential message to be communicated in the ambient space. A life-sized statue of a child, dressed in rags carrying a box above his head was sculpted and placed against a wall backdrop. The box filled with some weights was tied to a rope running over a set of pulleys and attached to a donation box at the other end. The words, “Your contribution can end child labour” was painted over it. This installation was placed in several malls with high volume footballs across the city. The response received was overwhelming. As people contributed to the cause by donating over half a million rupees (and counting…), its gradually increasing weight resulted in the box on the child’s head to rise. People were held speechless, moved by the interactive imagery of this piece and driven to be a part of the change.
“Your contribution can end child labour.”

An innovative hoarding for Berger Paints where a live painter appeared to be extending the blue of the sky on to the hoarding itself. This was done by creating dramatic cut outs in the hoarding in the actual shape of the roller strokes.

To convey their wishes for the New Year to their clients, Lowe has sent them a miniscule card. The card looked just like a normal wish card, but was much smaller. On the front was the classic message: Best wishes for 2009*”. The recipients of the card found the explication for the asterix on the inside of the world’s smallest wish card: It’s crisis time for everyone.

The famous Elbe Tunnel in Hamburg runs 426 meters under the city’s river. It’s a pity that you never see what’s in the water above you. But we found a way to make it possible. They covered the tunnel’s inside with a spectacular underwater view as it can only be shown by the world’s leading tv-station for nature documentations: the Discovery Channel. The wrapping got installed for one month and was seen by more than 90.000 tourists and pedestrians crossing the tunnel on their way to work.

Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers unveiled a hard-hitting public service announcement (PSA) campaign today to help battle escalating violence plaguing metro Vancouver this year. The campaign encourages people to report crimes and suspicious behaviour, and compellingly reinforces Crime Stoppers’ new positioning, “You remain anonymous, criminals don’t.” “The new campaign will refresh people’s perceptions about Crime Stoppers and reassure people of their anonymity who are still hesitant to contact us with their tips,” says John Ashbridge, board of directors’ member, Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers. “It also highlights the type of criminal activities that we encourage the public provide tips on.” Developed pro bono by DDB Canada’s Vancouver office, the provocative campaign includes out-of-home and print elements targeting individuals who have information that would help solve a crime or lead to the capture of a criminal. The gritty creative executions are based on four criminal activities identified by the police and the community as high priority: street crime, unsolved homicide, gun crime and gang violence. Each PSA shows a crime in progress with the perpetrator(s) in focus while the identities of the victims and witnesses are pixelated to keep them anonymous. “Pixelation is instantly recognized and commonly associated with the reporting of criminal activity. But this time it’s used to illustrate the anonymity of providing crime-solving tips,” says Dean Lee, creative director, DDB Canada. “People need to realize their tips are completely anonymous, that tipsters have nothing to fear and can make a real difference in helping make Vancouver a safer city to live in.” The new campaign will start appearing in The Province newspaper and other publications next week and across metro Vancouver on billboards, transit shelters, on buses, in bars and restaurants and washroom stalls. The PSA campaign will be supported by radio and television executions, which will launch later this spring. The PSA campaign for Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers was created by DDB Canada in collaboration and with generous donations from the following media partners and organizations: 24 Hours newspaper, Georgia Straight, Lamar Advertising, Metro newspaper, New Ad, OMD Canada, Pattison Outdoor, Philip Jarmain Photography, The Province newspaper and Vancouver magazine. Global BC Television, the Corus Radio Network, The Province Newspaper and Shaw Community Television will also continue their ongoing support to Crime Stoppers as part of this campaign.
