Zoo Safari: Take a peek

zoo_safari

To communicate that Zoo Safari is not a common zoo, because the animals run free just like in a safari, they created electrostatic stickers containing animal pictures. These stickers can be placed on the windshield of parked cars to make the visitor imagine what it would feel like to be so close to a wild animal. Text: “up-close, no cages. More fun”. The image shown on the stickers reproduced in real life size proportions the face of an animal taking a peek inside the car.

Good idea, yet flawed. The image would never be seen from inside the car. The driver/passenger would take the sticker off the windscreen before they got into the car. So although the shots look nice for awards juries they aren’t very accurate.

I think this sticker works for its clever use of media. The zoo safari does a good job of extending advertising beyond its traditional means. A life-sized sticker of an animal head cannot help but gain the attention of the passengers in the car. While this could be viewed as invasive and annoying, it still gains attention in an uncommon way.

My last comment has been misunderstood. I don’t disagree that this is a clever use of media – and is impactful. The problem i have is that the only way the passengers inside the car would see the stickers as depicted in the shots is if somebody actually stuck them to the windscreen while the passengers were already in the car – which would completely lessen any impact. There is no way a driver/passenger coming back to their parked car would leave the sticker on the windscreen ‘just to see what it looks like’ on the inside. And there is no way that they would miss it and get into the car car due to it being life size.
