Yes, any store could do a media buy like this, but it works so well for McDonald’s because they are such a well known and huge brand– it’s supposed to be playing off the sense of anticipation you get going to McDonald’s and knowing you’re going to bite into a delicious cheeseburger or whatever you may get there. It works well for food, but it wouldn’t work so well for say, Nike– there’s not the same sense of urgency about buying sneakers as there is about getting food when you have a craving or are hungry.

I think it’s kinda unsuccessful, at first I didn’t really get it (I’m studying advertising and I did try and figure it out first), I had to read the comments to fully understand it, and from that aspect it’s clever/creative, but the fact that so many other people, myself included, didn’t really get it at first makes it unsuccessful.

At least in Denmark and Germany there are these McDonald’s – 100 m all over the place. So this is just a persiflage of the whole thing.
Maybe that doesn’t exsist in the US or elsewhere?
