The 9/11 attack was the fruit of human actions – deliberate action. The tsunami was inevitable. Comparing the two is plain stupidity.

The earthquake that cause the tsunami had natural causes and no human intervention – it was not caused by pollution, global warming or excessive mining or fishing. It’s something we have to live with and accept, and at the most, try to stay clear of it. Human impact on the planet has little to do with such catastrophic events – what we are harming is the thin delicate layer on top of it that we and every other living creature inhabit, putting ourselves at danger by doing so. Earthquakes are always going to happen. So are tsunamis, volcanic eruptions and meteor impacts, independently of what we do with life on earth – preserve it or destroy it.

I don’t see how the WWF can claim any association with any of these two events, but if they do, it should have been 9/11. That was the one that showed no respect for life.

WWF STRONGLY CONDEMNS UNAUTHORIZED AD CAMPAIGN

WASHINGTON, DC, September 1, 2009 – World Wildlife Fund today issued the following statement in response to an ad posted on several Internet sites that has been inaccurately linked to our organization and contains messages and images related to the events of 9-11.

“WWF strongly condemns this offensive and tasteless ad and did not authorize its production or publication. It is our understanding that it was a concept offered by an outside advertising agency seeking our business in Brazil. The concept was summarily rejected by WWF and should never have seen the light of day. It is an unauthorized use of our logo and we are aggressively pursuing action to have it removed from websites where it is being currently featured. We strongly condemn the messages and the images portrayed in this ad. On behalf of WWF, here in the US and around the world, we can promise you this ad does not in any way reflect the thoughts and feelings of the people of our organization.”

This kind of crap comes from self centered dumb-asses who are trying to win a freakin advertising award …AT ANY COST. Desperation is written all over this crap.

…these clowns ARE Numb to the actual pain and suffering people felt when BOTH these disasters happened. Comparing them is pointless.

WWF? it should be for WTF?

Tiago,

I believe you didn’t get the idea: they are trying to say that “NATURAL” events such as the Tsunami shows that the planet and its nature are much more powerful than the human-driven catastrophic events we have seen to date.

So stupid and obvious idea, that doesn’t make any sense at all… it is so ambiguous and disrespectful to those families who lost their relatives on 9/11, trying to say that the planet itself is so much more dangerous than that.

Shame on you, Sergio Valente and Guilherme Jahara.

It distracts from the actual point, seemingly irrelevant. A comparison between a natural destruction and a man made one. Redundant, but good art direction.

This is an insult and not to mention insensitive advertising to compare the the 9/11terrorist attacks to a natural disaster. Especially the families who lost their loved ones during the tragic event…FAIL WWF Brasil.

I do find the ad a bit over, but the main point of all that drama is that every day heaps of people are dying by starvation, illnesses and even more violent acts world wide. So, think above it… 11th september is more a symbol of an unilateral, selfish policy by US, than a tragedy or a deliberated attack. So, I know it may offend some of you, but the comparison is fair enough when is said: there’s much more people suffering out there and by preserving the environment, you can help them also.

I’m strongly against every kind of war. Peace!
