Wrangler RED: We’re animals

Here you can find on the following website the 77 pictures of the new Wrangler We Are Animals campaign

http://www.red-campaign.com

Wrangler has revealed its new image for this 2010 Spring/Summer season, which goes by the name of Red. A powerful, visceral campaign centred on the human being’s most primary instincts. Men and women have been photographed in red waters or amidst the fury of twirling red dust. A new approach to the concept We Are Animals by a fit, strengthened Wrangler. The campaign We Are Animals comes packed with emotions. Each image is a high dose of adrenalin, tension and passion, with red as the basic colour. Each character becomes the personification of the inner strength of an unleashed man, a sweeping animal alter ego. The new campaign features two distinct phases, the first one to be shown at Berlin’s Bread&Butter, with an important presence in the city and in the specialized press on the occasion of the fair. In March, there comes the second assault, aimed at the public through several channels –graphic, street ads, digital, and stores.

Agree, we’re animal is a shame on cannes jury. It should get a special prize: “the worst awarded work ever”

Horrible campaign

just a cheap exploitation of the Indian festival of Pagwa/Holi… not even trying to create an identity or build on the brand. Wrangler’s agency needs to take some cues from Levi’s “Go Forth” and Johnnie Walker’s “Keep Walking” campaigns. now that’s primal for a modern, consumer-minded world.

I don’t think that Levi’s campaign is the best exemple: “Go Forth” strangely looks like Wrangler “Humans – we are animals” : same photographer, same style… And I’m not the only one who noticed it http://blog.jorycordy.com/jory-cordy/2009/9/27/mcginley-for-denim.html

same photographer, same style… different execution. Levi’s may not be the best execution, but it’s the perfect comparison. Levi’s team took the idea one step further. it’s easy to take pics of people looking like animals and call them as such. my comment was to show how taking the obvious and throwing a little creative thinking into making it mean something more than the first impression. a call to action… a movement… at least extend a little credit to the audience.

But it’s not a call for action, it’s an exclamation.
This campaign as its predessor, takes publicity to the level of art. These photos need no manipulation, they could be presented in gallery.
For me, it makes the link between the brand and the esthetic. There is no explanation and no call for action, because wrangler counts on their audiences : intelligence and understanding to appreciate the visual as it is.

the website http://www.red-campaign.com/, where are presented all the campaign, shows the importance of the original untouched prints.

You can take this campaign as crap but it did win the Grand Prix for Print at Cannes International Advertising Festival. I don’t see the issue with it, I’m quite frankly sick of all these ‘you can change the world’ ads, how about we call it like it is. I think it’s a hot concept and a juxtapose of a few different concepts and while I wouldn’t be caught dead in them, my hat tips.

Love it, I dont get why everybody thinks its bad. Its art, and you have to use your own mind. Making this ad with a normal “animal” look would be boooooooooooring. This is cool, and the visuals gets your attention.
