IKEA: Organize your desktop

Download here: http://www.ikea.com/ms/hu_HU/campaigns/IKEA_desktop_folders.html

We prepared a useful, design-conscious and cost-effective way – true to IKEA’s values – to organize and store your stuff even in your second home, your computer. You can download the IKEA e-Folder set, which consists of a background picture with an EXPEDIT storage unit and an icon set made of IKEA’s very own organizers to put order to the chaos on your Desktop. The e-Folder set can be already downloaded from three countries’ IKEA websites (Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary).

so how do I make this work for a mac in the US? I can’t seem to open the files because they are saved a file extension that I have never seen before. None of my programs will open it either. I like that it doesn’t have a background so taking a screen shot of them isn’t an option. (they won’t look like they are sitting in the cubbies) Any ideas as to how to pseudo-hack this I’m all ears. :)

Hi Megan,

It shouldn’t make a difference if you’re in the US or not. The file extension is that specifically made for icons. On a mac you just basically have to open the folder with the ikea icons in your finder, and just ctrl+c the one you choose. Then right click on the folder you want to change, click on “get info”, and just ctrl+v it in the upper left corner instead of the current pic.

It’s hard to write it down, but it’s really easy to do:)

Ahhh! Thank you! Man these all nighters are killer on the neurons! Now, here’s another dumb one for you… Wouldn’t having a bunch of folders on your desktop bog down your computer? Do you just keep smaller sized folders on the desktop? I really like the idea of putting them in the cubbies. I suppose I could also set it as a background image in a folder… hmmm :)

I agree when the copy says, “We prepared a useful, design-conscious and cost-effective way – true to IKEA’s values.” This for sure goes with IKEA’s values. I personally love IKEA and their mission. I can see moms using this organizer and I think of my mom in particular, who works in IT and has multiple computer screens to keep track of as well as a busy family. What a great idea with a simple way to download onto your own computer.
